mommy says that i can't travel out of the country until i get my passport. she started to fill out an application for a uk passport, but realized i didn't qualify. as of january 1, 1983, being born in the uk does not qualify you for citizenship. you must have a parent that is a uk citizen also. so for my 3 month birthday, daddy and mommy took me on a trip to edinburgh to register my birth with the us consulate and get my first passport.
the us consulate only takes walk-in on tuesdays and thursdays 9-12:30 for this. we were off to a late start. we didn't leave the house until 10. so we took a cab to edinburgh. it was great! i like riding in cars. the cab dropped us off on princes street. we had to stop off at a store to buy a white blanket. mommy forgot mine, and we needed it as a background for my passport picture. plus it was cold out. we ran into a store but couldn't find a pram blanket. since we were crunched for time, mommy bought a white towel.
now, we were off to take my passport picture. the roads in edinburgh were rough. i kept bouncing about in my stroller. so when we arrived at the picture place, i let mommy and daddy know that i wasn't happy with them. it took a little while to get a picture that was good enough for a passport. the lady finally got one where my eyes were opened and i wasn't cry. but you can definitely tell i was crying just before that.
then we headed to the us consulate. nothing much happened there. mommy filed my paperwork, daddy gave me some milk, and i pooped in my diaper. there were no public bathrooms inside the us consulate. =( we headed to princes mall right after.
we had to wait in line for the baby changing room. we were behind a chinese family. the grandmother brought the little girl with pigtails over to look at me. the little girl cupped her hands together to indicate i was a tiny. it was really cute. mommy says that when i have longer hair, she's going to put my hair up just like that. i have a feeling that mommy is going to make me look silly a lot.
after daddy and mommy had lunch in the mall, we headed back on to glasgow by train. my first train ride! i tried my hardest to stay up and enjoy it, but i was just sooo pooped from the long day. this was my longest day trip yet!
i don't remember much after that. i think we were at buchanan gallery. mommy said she had to return something and daddy had to get his glasses fixed. he broke them when got out of bed to comfort me. sorry daddy! after that i remember smelling coffee and being cold for a little while. when i woke up, we were home and it was time to eat.
